Alex Marshall

I have spent the majority of my career working for some of the UK’s world-leading culture and sports organisations; designing and delivering purpose driven brand strategies, communications and exceptional user experiences.

Throughout my career I’ve been struck by how often companies ignore the importance of employees to their brand’s success and reputation. Many organisations are happy to spend vast amounts of time (and money) designing exceptional user brand journeys and interactions, yet fail to see the benefits of engaging their employees in the same way.

I’m passionate about helping companies to understand the power that employee experiences can have on their brand’s reputation and success. Building a specific employer brand can help engage employees as ambassadors for the company, help them to understand the company’s purpose and their role in supporting and representing it, and create productive and motivated workplaces that reflect the company’s values.

Prior to setting up Spot The Gap, I worked as a senior leader for a number of organisations including as Director of Campaigns and Engagement for Women in Sport and Director of Communications and Development for Nuffield Theatres Southampton. I have worked for some of the UK’s world-leading culture, tourism and sports organisations and you can view my full work history here.

I am a member of the Institute of Directors and the Market Research Society. I am an alumni of the Clore Leadership programme and the Allbright Academy. I am also a mentor for The Girls Network.

When not working, I am an avid culture vulture, tea-drinker and traveller. I have visited every continent (my last adventure took me to Argentina) and every major city in the UK with the exception of Sheffield, which I hope to remedy soon!
